The first pain-relieving brand
The brand 'Aspirin' was launched in 1899 to alleviate the sufferings and pains of the world. It is not known whether suffering has gone or not, but definitely, the pain has gone away. It was the first pain-relieving brand. To some extent, this was a miraculous product, just like penicillin in the first half of the twentieth century or Viagra in the late twentieth century. It ends physical pain immediately.
Felix Hoffman (1868-1946) was a chemist at 'Bayer Company,' and his father had arthritis, so he was looking for painkillers. After many experiments, he finally succeeded in finding acetylsalicylic acid in 1897, which not only relieved his father's pain, but Bayer Company found a new product.
The Bayer Company marketed pure acetylsalicylic acid under the brand name Aspirin in 1899. Aspirin was previously available in powder form in glass vials. Chemists used to sell it to customers by packing one gram each from a 250 gram bottle, which was a little inconvenient. To overcome this problem, the Bayer Company launched Aspirin tablets the following year. Within ten years, Aspirin became Bayer's most significant brand and one-third of the company's revenue generated from this product.
A few cheaper alternatives to Aspirin continued to appear in the market, but these did not make much difference to the Bayer Company. The difference came when Paracetamol entered the market in 1956 and Ibuprofen in 1969, ending the monopoly of Aspirin in the painkillers market. The Bayer Company then conducted in-depth research for Aspirin, which revealed that Aspirin protects against heart attacks and prevents blood clots. Thus, Aspirin began to explode again. The selling of Aspirin was 418 million Euros in 2010 and Aspirin Cardio for 358 million Euros. That makes a total of 776 million Euros.
The company did not tamper with the Aspirin brand until the end of the twentieth century. But in the early 21st century, the company introduced a separate pill for migraine (Aspirin Migraine), a different one for cold and cough (Aspirin Complex), and a different one for heart patients (Aspirin Cardio). The brand got a little weaker because of using the same brand name for different products. But now, the heart patient would not hesitate to take Aspirin because its name includes 'Cardio.' you may also find Aspirin Cancer in the market in ten to twenty years. It will be the third innings of Aspirin.
