One for All
India's independence movement was multifaceted. While on the one hand, some dreamed of liberating the country through their sacrifice, and on the other hand, some visionaries dreamed of taking the nation forward by strengthening the Indian economy. In 1929, Gour Mohan Dutta of Calcutta chose this second option and established GD Pharmaceuticals. The company's goal at the time was to manufacture drugs of the same quality as those imported from abroad.
Gour Mohan Dutta worked day and night to make his dream of an economically viable India come true. The company launched a diverse range of medical products, of which one thing became so popular that it is still found in our homes today. We are talking about the dark green colored trademark antiseptic cream Boroline. We see many uses of Boroline Cream in our daily lives, where youngsters apply it on pimples, or dry skin and mothers rub their delicate hands on the wounds of their young children. Boroline has become an essential part of every first-aid kit today.
Boroline, a flagship product of GD Pharmaceuticals, quickly became popular in pre-independent India. Kashmiris, due to cold weather, used it on their dry skin and people of South India used Boroline to protect themselves from the blazing sun. Boroline's formula was suitable for all types of skins and people of all ages. It was made from a mixture of boric acid (antiseptic), lanolin ( a wax to relieve dry skin, wounds, and infections), and zinc oxide (sunscreen).
After independence, India, as an independent nation, began to take steps to make its mark on the world stage, and at the same time, the company also expanded its brand to cater to the needs of consumers. In addition to the most trusted Boroline, the company launched other products such as antiseptic skin liquid Suthol, Allen Hair Oil, Glosoft Face Wash, and Penorub Liquid Pain Reliever, which relieved all types of aches and pains.
As the company's popularity grew, so did the products' demand, and the company, which started with a single-person vision, soon built a loyal customer base. The company started its first manufacturing unit in Chakbagi, West Bengal. Spread over 20 acres, the 48,000-square-foot facility is still in operation today. Seeing the growing demand, the company has also started its second manufacturing plant of 8,000 square feet in Ghaziabad (NCR, Delhi).
The first objective of the company has always been to serve the country. The company is equally concerned about the environment, so it has grown greenery around its Kolkata manufacturing plant. The material used in each of the company's products is recyclable, and the waste is biodegradable. A company that understands social responsibilities correctly also bears the cost of treating poverty-stricken patients.
Today, heaps of skincare products are manufactured in India, but Boroline has so far been successful in maintaining its position. The secret to Boroline's success lies in its never-before-seen quality, innovative products, and packaging.
