Synonyms for speed: Ferrari
Speed, Excellence, Class, and Sports Car - whenever we hear these words, there's a name that immediately flashes in our minds. 'Ferrari', right? A favourite car of almost every car fan. Ferrari has a unique place in the world of sports cars today, and all the credit goes to its founder, Enzo Ferrari.
Born in 1898, Enzo was obsessed with cars from an early age. It would not be an exaggeration to say that racing was in his blood. Destiny, however, paved the way for him. At the age of 16, he had to get involved in World War I where he joined the 3rd Alpine Artillery Division of the Italian Army. After returning from the battle, miseries mounted one after another on Enzo - the death of his father and brother, the collapse of the family business, the illness caused by the war itself.
Enzo was not among the ones who gave up soon. Shaking off all the frustration, he sat down again and applied for a job at Fiat. But destiny did not support him there either, and he was rejected. He then joined the CMN racing team that was converting truck bodies into passenger cars. After working there for a while, he left and started writing his true success story.
Enzo joined Alfa Romeo's racing team and was made president of the Alpha racing team Scuderia Ferrari due to his success in local racing competitions. Here he formed a powerful unit, but despite all their talents, they could only win only certain races. Alfa Romeo rescinded his contract in 1933, and he was moved to a smaller position as director of sports. In 1937, Enzo left him due to financial difficulties.
Enzo then set up a company that supplied car parts to racing teams. His company joined War Productions in World War II. After the end of the war, Enzo Ferrari founded the Ferrari SPA, and this is where the fast-paced Ferrari journey began. Enzo started participating in the Formula One World Championships with his team and also started the business of sports car manufacturing on the side to get financial support.
Ferrari built its first sports car, the 125 Sport, with a 1.5-litre V12 engine. The car succeeded in making Ferrari one of the most luxurious car segments in the world. Enzo's strong leadership and personality proved fruitful for his team and company. He did not hesitate to expel even the senior leadership from the company because of his dominant character. When these ousted leaders were starting a new company, most people believed that Ferrari could not afford such a huge loss, but Enzo remained steadfast like a rock and started the development of 250 GTOs. With the help of Ferrari's young engineer Forghieri and racing body man Scaglietti, the car became one of the best sports cars in history and won many championships. He then built other models such as the Daytona, 275 and 250P.
In 1969, Fiat invested about 50% in Ferrari SPA, which led to the construction of a new factory and the development of new cars. Enzo Ferrari retired from his sports racing team in 1973 and died in 1988. By that time he had made Ferrari a world-renowned company. In honour of the founder of the company, Ferrari launched the 12-cylinder Enzo Ferrari in 2002.
How Enzo Ferrari created a successful car company and racing team from scratch is inspiring to all. The fact that Enzo managed to achieve his goal despite all the failures and frustrations that he faced can prove to be extremely beneficial for today's entrepreneurs.
