The classic story of cute murphy baby
A small wooden box and on its left-hand corner - a straight antenna. What comes to our mind after hearing this? Radio. An entertainment tool that gradually faded after the visual form of entertainment came into existence.
Once, owning a Murphy Radio in India was an honorable thing. The ladies of the house used to sew the cloth and make a cover for it. It was placed at a slight height to prevent children from harming it. Especially, if Murphy's radio was in the drawing-room, the elders walked with pride while any guest visited and even showed off the radio. People kept the volume high enough to listen to popular radio programs so that even the neighbours could hear it. All members of the house would gather and listen to the 'Binaca Geetmala.' If there were a repeat broadcast on the next day, the ladies would listen to the radio while cooking.
Murphy Radio's TagLine was sung by Mohammad Rafi and was very loved by people. You may remember, 'Murphy Ghar Ghar Ki Ronak, Tarah Tarah Ke Murphy Radio, La Dete Hai Ghar Mai Jaan,' which was Murphy's Famous Ad-Line.
At that time, Philips and the National Echo were famous, and also Murphy's competitor. However, National Echo had copied Murphy's features.
In 1948, Murphy Radio made its entry in India. And, they came up with a healthy and young baby in their first logo ad, which was one of the most iconic logos of the 20th century. This is how the baby came to be known as the 'Murphy Baby.' Her faces were frequently shown in calendars and posters. This baby was even found in the gynecologist's clinic posters. It is said that during pregnancy, every mother wished to have a baby like the Murphy baby.

During that time, there was a rumor that 'Murphy's Baby' was dead. Thus people used to say that she died because of them.

Sharmila Tagore was featured in the very first print ad of Murphy. The ad was created to increase the sale of Murphy's radio in Diwali. Children used to convince their parents to buy Murphy Radio on Diwali.

However, the story of Murphy's brand started in 1929. Frank Murphy and E.J. Power created the first radio in England. In 1939, Frank Murphy left his own company and handed over the charge of the company to E.J. Power. Frank Murphy then set up another company, which we still remember in our day-to-day life. It's F.M. Radio - Frank Murphy Radio.

The funniest thing about Murphy's brand is
Who was Murphy's Baby?
Well, whom we call Murphy Girl, or Murphy Baby, was a baby boy, not a baby girl. His name is Kagyur Tulku Rinpoche. He lived in Manali. Makers wanted to feature him into the ad. However, the original Murphy Girl died. So the company was looking for someone who looked like her. That's when Rinpoche came to be Murphy Girl. What is even more exciting is that later, Rinpoche married superstar Mandakini. Twenty years before this marriage, Rinpoche spent a monk's life in a monastery.
