2015 will be remembered for a significant change in the smartphone market. In 2015, the smartphone market was hit by a newly emerging brand with strong competition to the two giant brands - Apple and Samsung. Surprisingly, it was not even two years since the brand came into the mobile-phone industry. The first smartphone of the brand proved 'flagship killer'. Since the first day of its launch, it had given a strong fight to big companies. This brand was 'One Plus'.
The company was founded in 2013. Pete Lau and Carl Pei established ‘A larger than life’ mobile brand. Pete is the CEO of One Plus. The Chinese entrepreneur started his career as a hardware engineer at Oppo Electronics. Though he started his career as a hardware engineer, he was appointed as Director of Oppo's Blu-ray wing, then head of marketing and finally the Vice President of the company. One of his major contributions was that he had launched the Oppo N1. The smartphone used ‘cyanogenmod’ which is an Android operating system.
Peter and Carl had always dreamed big together. They felt that there were many flaws in the mobile industry. They did not like the high smartphone prices too. They had decided to start their own company. Pete finally left Oppo in 2013, and Pete and Carl's entrepreneurial journey began.
Initially, OnePlus had only five employees. Just as most startups start with time spent in cafes for discussions, they also sat in the cafe to discuss their personal experiences with smartphones and their own. They brainstormed with a view to create something concrete and new. Through all these discussions, they felt that they could really build a device with a high quality, a good quality attention-to-detail system, and a very attractive design. The combination of the devices they had thought of was not in the market at affordable prices.
They announced their company soon after finalizing their vision device and started working on their first product, One Plus One. The company was confident that it could make a 'flagship killer' product which would be cheaper than other smartphones in the market in terms of price. One Plus One was launched in the market and instantly became a hit. By the end of 2014, 1.5 million phones were sold worldwide, and the most amazing thing was that such a large sale was done without any advertisement.
After the successful launch of One Plus One, the company launched the One Plus 2 on July 27, 2015. The important matter is that a company which did not exist a few years ago had outperformed the world's big companies. The company's vision and marketing strategy are responsible for this. OnePlus believes that making the best product and delivering it to customers directly is the best way. This company believes in mouth publicity. They insist on giving the best products to the customers. The company believes that you do not need over-marketing to deliver a good product to customers.
